I’m Addicted to Pinterest

Monday, January 16th, 2012

I’ve been hearing about Pinterest but don’t love picture sites where you post pictures of all your kids, pets, travels, etc. I’m just not into putting the good, the bad and the ugly of my life out there for the world to see. After getting a taste of what Pinterest is by looking at some people’s offerings, and getting an invitation, I decided, what the heck, I’m going to give it a try.

I’ve only been on it a few days and I’m totally addicted. Here’s why: Pinterest is a vehicle where you can post pictures of either pictures you’ve taken, or images you’ve found online. Hello! I’m all about sharing pictures of fashion I love. It’s the perfect outlet. You set “boards” up of categories you wish-I set up “My Style” which contains images of fashion I would personally wear; “Style for Female Clients” which contains images of style & fashion that I would introduce my female clients to; “Style for Male Clients” which obviously contains the same idea except for my male clients; “Fashion Shows” which may be images from fashion shows I’ve done or other ones I like; “Celebrity Fashion I Like” which contains images of clothing stars wear that I actually enjoy and last but not least, I just added “Wedding Style” which will contain style for all members of the wedding party. In the future I’ll add more, but this is a good start.

If you see a “pin” (image on someone’s board) that you like, you can “repin” it so it shows up on 1 of your boards. Cool. It always keeps the original source which is very helpful so if you want to purchase something I’ve chosen, you can go directly to the source. It’s like getting totally free style advice from me. Hey, wait a minute, something’s wrong here.  :)

You can also follow people or their specific boards so when they post something new, you’ll be notified so you can check it out. Pretty cool, huh?

Here’s my link so you can check it out and see if you want to start your own:

Enjoy!

Look Fabulous in Every Photo

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

It’s that time of year again; time for having your picture taken at all different events such as weddings, graduations, picnics and other celebrations. Follow these easy tips and you’ll look fabulous every time.

Men-Make sure your fly is closed. This isn’t the time to go scruffy. Make sure you’re freshly shaved or if you have facial hair, that it’s recently trimmed and groomed. Take time to trim and/or pluck brows, nose hair and ear hair. Seriously.

Women-Make sure you don’t have lipstick on your teeth. Blot off all oil and shininess (paper towels work great). Plump up your hair if it’s lost its volume.

Both genders-Make sure your shoes are clean and shined. Smile as naturally as possible. You don’t want to look forced or uncomfortable. Slightly lower and push forward your chin. This will help with lines and double chins.

Stand at a diagonal with one foot in front of the other. Remember that air equals slimness so stand with your hand on your hip so there’s air between your body and arm.

Follow these tips, and you won’t be afraid to show off you and those pearly whites.

Snow and Fashion Collide in Wisconsin

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Who would have known a week ago we were in for the largest snow storm/ blizzard in many years? This snowstorm hasn’t just affected us Wisconsinites but many of the states around us. I’m physically stuck in my home today. There are at least 3 or 4 feet of snow at the end of my driveway thanks to the plows who have diligently kept up to ensure people who absolutely need to travel, can in a safe manner.

What is an image consultant and fashion stylist supposed to do when all client appointments have been cancelled for the day? Document the result of the historic snow storm of course! For your viewing pleasure, I’ve taken pictures of how snow and fashion collide in Wisconsin. I’ve also tried to show you how much snow there is. If you look carefully at the pictures that just look like snow, there is actually a sidewalk and the snow rises about 2 feet above it.

How to Look Great in Your Next Photo Shoot

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Want to look great in your next  photo shoot? Most people do not enjoy the thought of having pictures taken because they are scared the results will not be attractive. Follow these guidelines and you will look great.

Color-Unless these will be black and white photos, color is very important. Wear colors in your correct season and color palette. If you don’t, you may look ill. If the pictures will be in black and white, you want to wear contrasting colors that will add depth.

Hair-do not wait until the day before your photo shoot to have your hair cut and colored. Do so about a week beforehand so if something goes wrong, you have some time for it to grow out or be fixed. Unless you have it down pat, spend the money for a hair professional to style your hair the day of the shoot.

Makeup-Your makeup should be more intense than your everyday application because the flash and extra lighting washes your face color out. The type of photo will determine what style should be used. Bring your makeup in case the photographer wants some additional applied.

Clothes-If you want this picture to remain current looking for a while, wear classic clothing. If you wear trendy items, it will be dated very quickly. You also want to dress season neutral so the picture will look current whether it’s summer or winter. Do not wear fabric that wrinkles easily like linen. You will probably be doing multiple poses so you want a fabric that stays wrinkle free and that lays straight no matter what.

Accessories-Once again, don’t wear trendy items unless you want a dated picture. Wear timeless pieces in your style. Vintage items could be a good option. Unlike makeup, you don’t need more accessories. A great necklace and small to medium earrings will look great. Huge earrings will take away from your face.

Turn off your cell phone and other distractions so you can focus on looking your best in every shot.

If all of this is getting too complicated (and I could have gone into much more detail), call us, we’ll be happy to insure you look fabulous!

Spring Fashions and Trends

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

What are some fashion items you just can’t live without this spring? Do you wonder if you’re really wearing what’s in style or if you’re being left out? Here are some items to guide you in being as trendy as you want to be.

Bright florals are big this season and what could be better than this dress that has floral on the top and a butt minimizing bottom? It’s every girl’s dream. Add a fun scarf as a head covering and you’re ready for any weather including sprinkles. Some of us will go to almost any length to make sure our hair stays dry.

Continuing with the floral trend is this great floral jacket. In average and plus sizes, it’s a great fit for almost anyone. Once again, the floral is only on your top half so you can wear any color you like on the bottom. Dark colors will minimize, bright colors will be much fun! Add some capri pants and you’re ready for even the hottest day. Strappy sandals complete the look with flair.

The opposite of top is bottom (how clever) which is exactly what this dress is from the florals. The black is on the top and the geometric swirls are on the bottom. The full skirt is great on most body types and makes you want to do a twirl like you did when you were a child. The large necklace goes perfect with a simple top.

Want to be cool and look great? Try this adorable eyelet tunic and white shorts. Make sure you can’t see through them though. There’s nothing worse than an extremely cute outfit that everyone can see straight through. Check out the mustard yellow shoes. Don’t they look comfy?

What’s cuter and easier than a wrap dress? It takes about 45 seconds to throw on and you look totally put together and cool as a cucumber. The neutral color shown here can be worn with any color of accessories. She has a green chunky necklace and bag which is a great contrast. This dress is appropriate for work in many instances.

Have fun using these trends to guide you into the hottest Spring fashionista you want to be.
