Men’s Grooming Products

Thursday, December 6th, 2012

The change in seasons can wreak havoc on skin. Even if you have oily skin, you can get dry patches which aren’t attractive. Let’s talk about some grooming products to use daily for handsome, ready to touch skin.

Face washing is important and a multi-action foaming cream cleanses, exfoliates and conditions the skin all at the same time. Multitasking!

Shaving is a daily grind which can’t be avoided if you want a clean, kempt look. You can use a very inexpensive shave cream or a higher price version which may give your skin some extra benefits.

Razor bump skin care helps reduce nasty razor bumps that ruin your look. The one I chose has multiple uses. Be careful, your significant other may want to borrow it.

Lip balm is important to keep your lips soft and non-scaly. Don’t worry, it has no color and is not shiny.

Moisturizer is for both genders. If you have skin, you need it. You can either grab whatever your significant other uses or you can use one that rehydrates your skin and minimizes the appearance of fine lines.

Bottom line: you’ll be ready for those close ups whether on camera or in person.

You can find all of these products on Ulta. I don’t make anything from these brands.

Women: I Release You From Having to be Sexy 24/7

Friday, December 30th, 2011

In our culture and world, women are expected to be/look sexy every minute of every day and night. The media and many industries promote this for many reasons with the largest being to make money. When you have to be sexy every minute of your life, you have to buy all of the things to make that happen, whether it’s fashion, beauty products, cars, etc.

If you’re not sexy, what good are you? Everywhere you go you’re being told if you’re not sexy, you’re not valuable or worthy or current. Isn’t that too much pressure on an already stressful life of work, kids, mate, volunteering (do I need to add more?)…..

As a fashion industry insider, I’m here to tell you that you are released from the pressure this “necessity” creates. Listen to me carefully: you’re just as valuable, worthy and desirable when you’re being your self.

Ladies, the secret to true, not artificial sexiness, is just being your true, authentic self. This is what makes you attractive to other people-kindness, optimism and joy. The ultimate in sexiness. Nothing else needs to be added.

Am I saying you can’t use clothes, makeup or other things to make you feel prettier? Of course not! Considering what I do, that wouldn’t be smart. I am saying though, that true sexiness comes from the inside, and ultimately reveals itself on the outside.

Men (if you’re a real man, you will be reading this): you need to reinforce this to the women in your life. Tell them you love them for them; not for how “sexy” they are.

You’re released from artificial means. Go forth, conquer and be the best, individual, authentic human being you can be. Now that’s sexy!

Men: International Dressing

Friday, August 19th, 2011

There is a misconception that when conducting international business, you can dress casually because other countries dress just as, or even more casually than the USA.

This is untrue, with much of the world, including countries with very high temperatures, dressing much more professional than most Americans. Males in many countries routinely wear suits which show their level of position and serious attitude towards business.

Color is another important consideration when dressing internationally. In the US, white means pure, clean and honest. In other countries, it is known as death and for funerals. Purple is another color that in the US means royalty or affluence and in other countries means mourning. Blue, in some countries is also an indication of death, where in the US, it represents loyalty, honesty and hard work.

Research the countries (or call me) you will be doing business with to ensure you project the correct image and feeling.  If you don’t you could lose a business opportunity.

All Saints Arrives in Chicago

Monday, August 8th, 2011

This past weekend I was in Chicago for a couple of days and spent time in one of my favorite spots, Michigan Avenue (okay it’s more than a spot, but you know what I mean). I saw a store I didn’t think I had been in before and ventured in right away. It’s called All Saints, a British brand, and just arrived in June of this year. It’s 11,000 square feet of awesomeness.

There is fashion for both women and men. They have everything from funky clothes to totally different shoes and intricate jewelry. I really thought it has a lot of Steampunk influence in it. It’s not quite as Victorian focused but has a lot of the technology as shown in the jewelry. Check out the picture of the necklace.

I spent almost an hour in there just perusing and enjoying. It was quite busy and rightfully so. Although, I’m sure they hope it will appeal to everyone, in my opinion, I think it will appeal the most, to a funkier personality. Classic dress personalities may think it’s a little too free flowing. Dramatic personalities should like it and there are enough flounces for the romantic personality to find some goodies. Bohemian and gypsy personalities will love it. No matter what your dressing personality, go check it out; you never know what may hit you.

The clothes aren’t cheap but what do you expect? It’s on Michigan Avenue.

Men & Suits-Suck It Up

Friday, June 24th, 2011

I was watching The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, last night seriously throwing down in The Rundown in suits http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rundown . Yes, tailored, professional suits that fit him very well. I thought to myself, if Dwayne can do extremely physical scenes in suits, why do men complain and whine about wearing a suit either to work or other events? I asked my husband who was watching next to me and he shrugged his shoulders. He doesn’t understand it either. Every time we leave the house, unless we’re going hiking, he has on some kind of jacket, usually with dark wash jeans and a nice shirt.

Well yeah, you say, you probably make him wear that. Uh, no. My husband wears what he wants to. He understands that looking your best every time you leave home is crucial because you never know whom you may see or meet.

So suck it up! Quit complaining and whining like a child about having to wear a suit or suit jacket. Put on your big boy pants and get one (or more) that fit you properly. They will be as comfortable as a hoodie and you’ll look great, all of the time.

If you want a suit that fits you like a glove, invest in a custom made suit. Yes, it may cost more than a suit right out of the department store but you can get it in exactly the fabric and color you want. It will fit you so good, you’ll never want to take it off. A Tailored Suit is a great place to get one and Antonio, the owner, is a really nice guy.

What’s cool is you order it right online. They have tons of awesome, very helpful information on their website about everything suits. You won’t regret it! No, I’m not getting paid to say this.

So no more excuses. Look and feel great-all of the time.

Last Saturday I attended Boston Store’s semi-annual fashion show called trendevous (trend a vou) that Jordan Chambers narrated (and did a great job). The 2010 spring trends are:

Beaded Tops

Beaded tops-the more embellishments the better. I love the wild, geometric design embellished with different colored beads. The scarf adds even more interest although some people may find it too much. Be sure you wear a neutral bottom with a shirt like this or it will be too much. The white capris she’s wearing are perfect with this. Chaudry tunic in fuschia

Men & Details

For men, details such as buttons, snaps and other embellishments are big this season. This jacket with the big pockets and snaps can be worn to many casual events. The scarf adds a bit of sophistication and the olive pants give the outfit some extra color. Nautica Jeans utility jacket

 Denim & Neutrals

Denim paired with neutrals is another spring trend. A neutral color, such as tan, is great to pair with demin and really makes the denim pop. Remember, you only want to wear one denim item at a time. No jeans with a denim jacket and a denim shirt. Too much!

Another spring trend that continues from previous seasons, and in my opinion will probably become a classic, is the neutral shoe. This makes your legs look longer and slimmer. Try it, you’ll like it!  Jessica Simpson belted dress in denim

Daytime Dress in Floral

Another beautiful spring trend is a daytime dress. This one is in a bright floral which is also a trend. I think this dress is exquisite and so lady like. It’s wonderful for all of your spring and summer social events. Jessica Simpson dress in floral multi

White Shirt

Yet another trend, which really isn’t a trend at all but a very classic garment is the white shirt. The white shirt has been around for many years and is a classic for both men and women. Here it’s paired with pencil skirt which is another classic. Whenever you don’t know what to wear, put these two together and you’re guaranteed to look polished.  Jones New York Signature knotted front-tie shirt in white; Lauren by Ralph Lauren belted skirt in black

 Trench Coat

Trench coats are a classic that are trendy this spring. Trench coats were made popular by the military many years ago and have stayed an essential in wardrobes around the world since then. Since your trench is a staple and you will wear it many times and can have it for many years, invest in a quality one. Statement Necklace

The last spring trend is the statement necklace. The statement necklace has been around for a couple of seasons now but it’s so popular it continues to show up in new styles.  The one shown uses faux pearls and is a bib necklace due to its bib structure.  Erica Lyons faux-pearl bib necklace

Enjoy the great trends of this new season! I’m happy to answer all questions you may have about them.
