Fun in the Sun

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Here in Wisconsin it’s definitely not beach weather yet (right now it’s 28 degrees) but we can dream right? I created this collage to show how much fun you can have with fashion even at the beach (besides the usual swim suit).

Start off with an eye catching yet comfortable maxi dress in colors of the sea with waves represented by its print. Throw on a thin cotton cardigan for when the cool breezes hit you and a straw hat to keep the sun off your beautiful face. Add some embellished, yet practical flats to make it easy to navigate the hot sand.

Accessorize your beach outfit with natural wood earrings and bracelet. You can either wear 1 statement bracelet or stack several up to show everyone your fashion sense. Add a fun, easily cleaned bag to carry all of your necessities in a color of the sun, cheery yellow. It adds one more pop of color to your look.

Last but not least, wear fun, coordinating nail and toe polish along with simple, natural makeup in your best colors. And of course, don’t forget the sun screen. Your skin will thank you.

Enjoy the sun and surf!

Fall Looks at StyleMax in Chicago

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

I recently attended Stylemax which is a semi-annual event in Chicago at the Merchandise Mart where retail industry professionals go to purchase women’s clothing and accessories for the next season. This one showcased fall 2012 clothing.

It’s overwhelming because there are so many exhibitors with many different styles of product to choose from. There is every kind of garment you can think of in almost any kind of style you can imagine. This year some kids’ clothing has been added, which is always fun to see. There are so many adorable styles to choose from.

I found many things that my clients will look great in. There are styles that fit every type of dressing personality such as dramatic, natural and classic, so there’s something for everyone.

The only unfortunate thing is that there was no menswear present. The closest menswear show is in Las Vegas. Let’s get with it people, we need a Chicago show for men as well! They deserve equal treatment.

There was also a bridal show going on and since I love and style bridal as well, I had to take some pictures of the beautiful gowns.

So check out the pictures to get a sneak peek of what you may be seeing in your area boutiques this fall.

SoHung Designs Ripped & Zipped Coat

Sunday, March 11th, 2012

In January I produced and directed a fashion show for the MBA Home Expo. One of my awesome retailers was Bieg Boutique in Waukesha, WI. Bonnie owns it and was kind enough to dress me in two different outfits for it. My second look was my favorite so I have to share it with you.

This funky, rocker chic coat (that can also be used as a dress), by SoHung Designs from NYC, is all ripped up. There are actually little strategic rips all over the coat, which makes it distressed in a good way.  This coat also possesses a high neck which is brilliantly made out of zippers. The picture doesn’t do it justice but you kind of get the idea.

Bieg Boutique, http://www.biegboutique.com/ , sells more of SoHung’s unique, eye catching designs. You can see his designs on his website: http://www.sohungdesigns.com/women.html . Enjoy!

Fashion & Wisconsin Dells-Who Would Have Thunk?

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Recently I spent some fun, somewhat lazy days in Wisconsin Dells, known as the water-park capitol of the world. It’s one of the two most touristy places in Wisconsin; the other one being Door County. I usually don’t frequent these two places during the busy season but this year I broke that rule. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still slow in the Dells compared to what it will be by the beginning of July. Most business owners do the large majority (or all) of their business during the 3 busy months of summer.

Wisconsin Dells is known for, of course, water-parks, along with The Ducks, water-ski shows, magic shows, miniature golf and other fun diversions. One of my favorite things it’s known for is fudge. Yes, I said it-fudge. I don’t have scientific research to back this up but I believe there are more fudge stores per capita than any other place on earth except maybe Switzerland. This is not a bad thing. There is almost any kind of fudge you desire. I decided on several including mint, peanut butter explosion and watermelon. All delightful and worth every melt in your mouth bite. Yes, even those extra hours of working out.

Of all the things the Dells is, I have never thought of the Dells as a fashionable place or a place to find fashion. I thought of it as a place to see a lot of shorts, tank tops and swimsuits, oh, and hiking or “nature” shoes. Yeah, and tacky souvenir t-shirts and other cheap (yet expensively priced) clothing. Nothing to give a second look at. Well, that has all changed. My husband and I were walking around “the strip” and I was only half paying attention to the treasures that were in the souvenir stores we were passing when all of a sudden, I caught a glimpse of some quite fashionable clothes in a store, Burl & Boyd Boutique, that we were passing.

I almost thought I was dreaming but then my feet did the natural fashionista 90 degree turn into the store. Wow, was I surprised when I started looking around. It’s definitely the hippest, most fashion forward boutique in Wisconsin Dells – entirely unexpected, loaded with big personality. It was full of fashionista finds you’d expect to see in Chicago or Milwaukee boutiques or Madison (on State St) that won’t break the bank. A very friendly lady asked me if I needed help and of course I said I was just looking. A little later she came over again and I asked if she was the owner and she said yes. I told her how surprised and happy I was with the fashionable garments she offers.

Check out these boots she has. They’re hand made and embroidered from Artemis Boots, called Suzanis, the Persian word for “embroidery.” The designs are all one-of-a-kind
and have influences of folk art of the Orient and antique rugs. Aren’t they gorge? She has them in many colors and designs including tone on tone such as purple and lime green. They come in 3 different heel styles which means there is 1 appropriate for everyone.

As any self respecting fashionista would do, I found several great buys which includes this great maxi dress made from natural cotton which is perfect for even the hottest weather. To give it a little more flair I’ll add a belt, long earrings and some cute espadrilles. To make it work appropriate you can add a short cardigan or cotton jacket over it. For casual friday you could top it with a denim jacket.

To get even more use out of it you could fold down the top half (unless you’re really tall, than you don’t need to) and wear it as a maxi skirt with a form fitted top. So versatile!

This dress embodies 3 of the hot trends this season: long skirts/dresses, full skirts and blue prints.

Next time you’re in the Dells, make sure you stop at Burl & Boyd Boutique, 212 Broadway, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965. Tell Kelli Trumble I sent you.

Butts, Boobs & Bellies

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

It’s now summer which means hot and sticky weather. Are you tempted to show much more of your body than normal due to heat and humidity or just a feeling of happiness due to the more relaxed nature of summer? If you are, think twice (or three times).

Unless you’re spending time on the beach at your cottage, there’s no need to bare your butt, boobs and belly in public. This is true for both men and women.

Women, you may think you look sexy showing off the Big 3, but you just look raunchy. Believe it or not, the majority of people don’t want to see too much and the ones that do, you probably don’t want to attract. When people stare at you, it’s not because you look good; it’s because they wonder why you are so inappropriate.

Men, no one is impressed or wants to see your butt and underwear. Pull the pants up and put a belt on.

Am I saying this because I’m a prude? Definitely not. I want you to receive the highest level of respect from people around you whether it’s employers, colleagues, clients, friends, or even a potential significant other. You will lose credibility and possible opportunities if you’re seen as too “fun loving” and not serious enough about the image you portray.

Just say no to bare butts, boobs and bellies.

What Fashion Personality are You?

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

What kind of clothes do you naturally gravitate towards? Do you like lots of bling or do you abhor it and prefer natural fabrics and easy silhouettes? Do you like ruffles and floral prints or does the thought of that make you shiver and you’d rather wear straight lines in solid colors? Read on to determine what personality of dresser you have.

A Natural dresser loves easy, casual, usually eco-friendly fabrics such as cotton, linen and other breathable textiles. They love a look that doesn’t take a lot of time or ironing to achieve. A natural personality loves the outdoors, sports and the wild and free “hippie” look.

A Dramatic personality loves things that are shiny, blingy and draw attention. Dramatic dressers love asymmetrical lines and shapes. Dramatic prints are desirable along with fabrics that are brightly colored. Dramatic dressers love black, red and white to create contrast.

If you are a Romantic personality, you love ruffles, soft colors and small prints. You love soft, wispy hairstyles that remind you of romance novels. Romantic dressers enjoy sweeping skirts and things with movement.

If you are a Classic personality you want clean, symmetrical, straight lines. You don’t like trends, but gravitate towards styles that are timeless. Classic dressers are not fond of prints. They prefer solid colors which can be in deep, rich colors.

Which personality are you or are you a cross dresser (more than 1 category)? You can change personalities as life progresses. All personalities of dressers are valid and can be personalized. I’ve done some videos on the subject. Here’s the link to view them:  http://ht.ly/1JyT7

The beautiful models are Jeanette Pham (@identifyyourself) and Michelle D’Attilio (@identify_urself) of Corporate Identity Solutions. Also known as the @tweetupgirls since they’re the original tweetup organizers in the Milwaukee area.

First Fashion Set from Polyvore

Friday, February 12th, 2010
I just started a Fashion Stylist class and our first assignment is to show our personal style. Well, since it’s very cold and snowy here, I had to do a winter look. Pretend that the top has sleeves. There wasn’t a long sleeve top that I liked as much as this one. I love the ruching. It looks good on everyone. Isn’t that cape rockin? Who would have thought a cape was rockin, but with all the studs, this one definitely is.

Couldn’t you just salivate over that Alexander McQueen purse (RIP)? It’s very sad we’ll never see his style of fashion again. What about the boots? Your feet will love you in those. They’re from AM as well.

The ring is so versatile. Yes, it really is. You can wear it with jeans and a great top or with a LBD. Dress it up or dress it down.

The bottom line: I’m all about bling, whether it’s studs or crystals. Love it all! I could totally overdo it but I work hard at editing myself.

I love the ability to make and show your own fashion looks. Try it! You’ll like it.

Project Runway

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

I was really anticipating the new season of Project Runway which is back in NYC. Little did I know there would actually be a hometown girl, Anna Marie Lynett, this time. Now for most of you, that is no big deal. You have contestants on PR and other fashion shows on a regular basis. For me and other Milwaukeeans who don’t, this is HUGE! Us fashionable Wisconsinites (and there are many), love seeing our own on TV and when it happens to be fashion related, all the better.

We realize that in real time, the final designers are finishing their collections for Fashion Week next month, so in television time we will see who really won, but for now, I’m going to root for Anna in hopes that her Midwestern value of hard work, gets her to the finale. Anna, if you’re reading this, I’d love to chat-I won’t try to find out any condfidential information, just some words of wisdom I can pass on to the masses and especially your hometown.
