Jason Wu for Target, Clothing & Accessories

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (1)
Sunday, February 5th, 2012

Today is the launch of another collaboration between Target and a very well known fashion designer, Jason Wu. Of course I had to go check out the collection and compare it to Missoni’s, which was Targets last fashion designer collaboration.

I do have to say, with Missoni’s collection, I was somewhat disappointed by the quality and price points (yes, I know it was Missoni, but I also was in Target). Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Missoni’s higher priced collections.

Of course the Jason Wu clothing is right up front which makes it easy to find so I walked quickly to make sure no one else got something I wanted. There wasn’t much, only about 1/5 of the collection, which was disappointing because of course I wanted to see it all!

The first rack had 2 dresses which were cute: the jersey striped dress, $34.99 and the dot print shirt dress, $39.99. Both were cute and priced right. Then came a rack with the tee in gray with lace print, $19.99. The shirt is a nice soft rayon and seems to be good quality. This is the piece I purchased. Out of the pieces that were available, this is the one I thought I’d get the most use from.

Another rack had the Navy floral chiffon dress, $39.99 and a Belize blue long sleeve pointelle (small holes) sweater, $39.99. The dress is priced well but the sweater/cardigan is overpriced. It would be better priced at $24.99. I’d be interested to see how many people pay that price and are happy as a result.

The last rack I saw had the pleated black skirt, $29.99 and Navy floral sleeveless top with a sheer panel, $26.99. I think this would be better priced at $22.99.

After the clothes racks, I went to the very bare accessory rack and looked at the few things that were left. The lace clutch, $29.99 and straw clutch, $29.99 were left. They are fun and can be worn with many different outfits, which makes them a good bet for a spring purse.

Overall, I think the quality of Jason Wu’s collection is good and the pieces are cute and have nice details. Some of the prices could be lower but overall, they’re not bad. Get them while you can!

This is the piece I bought. Tee with lace.

SAG Awards Beauties

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (0)
Monday, January 30th, 2012

Last evening the Screen Actors Guild Awards were broadcast. The Hollywood stars are out in full effect with their best on, hoping to make a great impression which may advance their career.

Here are my thoughts on some of the looks seen:

Let’s start with Emily Blunt in Oscar de la Renta. This bright green, one shoulder, ruched gown is absolutely gorgeous and looks wonderful with her coloring. This is definitely the right choice for her.

Jordan Strauss, 2012 WireImage

Regina King looks absolutely radiant in her lavendar Alberta Ferretti gown. The color is gorgeous on her and her extremely toned arms finish the look off in a sculptural way. Gorgeous!

Dimitrios Kambouris, 2012 WireImage

Glenn Close looks great in her Zac Posen tulle and taffeta gown. She usually wears Armani but broke out of the mold and tried something new. I love the tulle sleeves that look like an elegant wrap. They cover the arms but still give the illusion of bare skin. Black is too severe for her fair coloring. She would have looked better (if going dark)  in a charcoal or lighter navy blue. She also would look great in rose or lavender.

Kevin Mazur, 2012

Not just one, but two beauties are next on the list. Octavia Spencer in a sari like Tadashi Shoji top and long skirt which hugged her curves, looked gorgeous. Her skin is absolutely flawless. Size? What size? All I see is beautiful. Her co-actor, Viola Davis is wearing a white Marchesa gown which makes her look like a Greek goddess. I have to keep doing double takes when I see her at the award shows because she looks so different than her character in The Help. Gorgeous!

Michael Buckner, 2012 WireImage

Last but not least, is the incredible Kyra Sedgwick. When I saw her walking, I was in awe of her incredibly toned body. Her back is absolutely ripped. She seems to get younger and younger. How many women over 35 can wear a gown with cut outs that show front, side and back? Awesome. Her red Emilio Pucci gown fits her perfectly and shows off all of her hard physical work to have a body like that (if she doesn’t need to do anything to have that body, I don’t want to know).

I’m Addicted to Pinterest

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (0)
Monday, January 16th, 2012

I’ve been hearing about Pinterest but don’t love picture sites where you post pictures of all your kids, pets, travels, etc. I’m just not into putting the good, the bad and the ugly of my life out there for the world to see. After getting a taste of what Pinterest is by looking at some people’s offerings, and getting an invitation, I decided, what the heck, I’m going to give it a try.

I’ve only been on it a few days and I’m totally addicted. Here’s why: Pinterest is a vehicle where you can post pictures of either pictures you’ve taken, or images you’ve found online. Hello! I’m all about sharing pictures of fashion I love. It’s the perfect outlet. You set “boards” up of categories you wish-I set up “My Style” which contains images of fashion I would personally wear; “Style for Female Clients” which contains images of style & fashion that I would introduce my female clients to; “Style for Male Clients” which obviously contains the same idea except for my male clients; “Fashion Shows” which may be images from fashion shows I’ve done or other ones I like; “Celebrity Fashion I Like” which contains images of clothing stars wear that I actually enjoy and last but not least, I just added “Wedding Style” which will contain style for all members of the wedding party. In the future I’ll add more, but this is a good start.

If you see a “pin” (image on someone’s board) that you like, you can “repin” it so it shows up on 1 of your boards. Cool. It always keeps the original source which is very helpful so if you want to purchase something I’ve chosen, you can go directly to the source. It’s like getting totally free style advice from me. Hey, wait a minute, something’s wrong here.  :)

You can also follow people or their specific boards so when they post something new, you’ll be notified so you can check it out. Pretty cool, huh?

Here’s my link so you can check it out and see if you want to start your own:

Enjoy!

Women: I Release You From Having to be Sexy 24/7

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (0)
Friday, December 30th, 2011

In our culture and world, women are expected to be/look sexy every minute of every day and night. The media and many industries promote this for many reasons with the largest being to make money. When you have to be sexy every minute of your life, you have to buy all of the things to make that happen, whether it’s fashion, beauty products, cars, etc.

If you’re not sexy, what good are you? Everywhere you go you’re being told if you’re not sexy, you’re not valuable or worthy or current. Isn’t that too much pressure on an already stressful life of work, kids, mate, volunteering (do I need to add more?)…..

As a fashion industry insider, I’m here to tell you that you are released from the pressure this “necessity” creates. Listen to me carefully: you’re just as valuable, worthy and desirable when you’re being your self.

Ladies, the secret to true, not artificial sexiness, is just being your true, authentic self. This is what makes you attractive to other people-kindness, optimism and joy. The ultimate in sexiness. Nothing else needs to be added.

Am I saying you can’t use clothes, makeup or other things to make you feel prettier? Of course not! Considering what I do, that wouldn’t be smart. I am saying though, that true sexiness comes from the inside, and ultimately reveals itself on the outside.

Men (if you’re a real man, you will be reading this): you need to reinforce this to the women in your life. Tell them you love them for them; not for how “sexy” they are.

You’re released from artificial means. Go forth, conquer and be the best, individual, authentic human being you can be. Now that’s sexy!

Daphne Guinness at FIT NYC Museum

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (0)
Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

Due to my taking image consulting classes at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) New York City, I have the opportunity to peruse their many resources of everything fashion. This is thrilling to me. Some people are technology geeks, I’m a fashion geek. I love learning new things about historical, current and future fashion styles and trends. I love knowing the “why”. Why did/do people dress like that? Why did they choose it?

The newest exhibit at the FIT museum is about Daphne Guinness (heir to the Guinness brewery fortune). Daphne loves and lives for fashion. She purchases pieces to enjoy but also to show other people how much work and love goes into couture. Many hours of hand stitching, beading, etc.

I soaked in the exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed every piece that Daphne has so lovingly preserved. Every one is more beautiful than the last. I’ve attached the brochure so you can get an idea of the magnitude of the magnificent collection.

Thank you Daphne for being so generous in allowing us to share in the beauty of your collection.

5 Black Friday Shopping Tips

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (0)
Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Are you planning on being 1 of the huge crowds that will descend on retailers way before the cock crows this Friday? Some of the largest stores are opening Thanksgiving evening (is nothing sacred?). If you are, here are some Black Friday shopping tips to get you through:

1. Make a list before you go (like either tonight or early tomorrow morning) and try your best to stick to it. This will save you time and money.

2. Go for the electronics you want first. As you’re well aware, they go fast and furiously. I read there are a couple of guys that have been camping out in Best Buy’s parking lot since Sunday. Uh, a little excessive. Unless you have the same er, gumption, you may want to take a less strenuous strategy. Get in line as early as you see fit. You may or may not get what you’re going for.

3. To perhaps save you a lot of time, gas, anxiety and even bodily harm, after making your list, look for everything online. You may be surprised that you find them for either the same price or a little bit more, since online retailers are having Black Friday sales as well.

4. If you’re shopping for fashion, please, please remember to only buy things that are in your color palette/season and look good on your body type (shape). I know it’s easy to get excited and start grabbing everything (I’ve done it), but have some restraint and get only what you love and will use multiple times in the future.

5. Last but not least, no matter how good/tempting the deal, if you don’t have the budget for it, put it down and walk away quickly. Nothing is worth hurting financially in the future, whether in the short term or long term. Trust me, I’ve learned the hard way. I’ve purchased gifts/things I thought I absolutely had to have but it turned out as a burden and I ended up cursing the very thing I thought I couldn’t live without.

Men: Puffers Over Suits; Would You Wear It?

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (0)
Monday, November 7th, 2011

Image sourced from image.net

This fall/winter season, Calvin Klein is showing puffer (thick down filled) jackets. I personally really like puffer jackets because they’re so warm. Are they the most fashionable style? No, but when you live in a really cold climate, sometimes warmth comes before fashion (don’t tell anyone I said that). I’m talking when it’s below zero and you’d rather stay in bed where it’s warm but you have to get to the office and a million meetings that day.

Calvin Klein took the puffer jacket to a higher level by showing it worn over suits (love, love the tweed suits) and in a brilliant blue that will turn many heads. My question to you: do you have the attitude and wherewithal to rock this look?

Shoes for a Steal from Macy’s

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (3)
Friday, October 7th, 2011

A few weeks ago (sorry I didn’t write about it right away; fashion weeks got in the way), I was in Macy’s and stopped to look at the clearance shoes. For some reason there were actually quite a few pair in my size. Usually there are about 3 pairs of ugly shoes in my size. I got excited there were so many to choose from, picked out a bunch and asked the salesperson to get them for me.

She brought them back and I tried all of them on. Each pair was cuter than the next and were such an incredible deal, I did what any intelligent human being would do, I told her I’d take them all. I got 6 pairs of awesome shoes for $145! How can you beat that (besides for free)?

At the end of the season, you can find outstanding deals on fashion including shoes so make sure you spend a bit of time looking for things you can make work for the rest of the season and then have for next year. You won’t regret it because you can get higher price things than you may usually get, for the same price of lower quality items.

Check out my finds below.

London Fashion Week-Mary Katrantzou Spring 2012 Collection

By Kimberly Gomez · Comments (0)
Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Warning: this collection is not for the print averse. Then again, if you open your mind, you may find something you love.

Mary Katrantzou’s collection, in my opinion, is all about beauty, vibrancy and all out joy. It makes me happy just viewing it. The colors are beyond drenched and are totally sun-kissed. It catches and keeps your eyes from the models’ bright colorful lipstick to the metallic, stilettos, many with colorful spikes. The silhouettes of the garments are clean, fresh and beautifully done.

She obviously used gardens of beautiful flowers and “under the sea” as her inspirations. Even though the prints are bright and large, they aren’t grandma like in any stretch of the imagination. I believe they’re appropriate for all ages. You just have to have the attitude to go with them. You can’t be a shrinking violet (pun intended) in these.

I could go on and on but let’s cut it short and just enjoy.
