Spring is in full swing (although those of us in northern states often wonder if winter has creeped back in) and dressing for the office can be tricky. We want to embrace the warm weather and enjoy our refreshed attitude but we also need to remember that dressing for the office is different than dressing for anywhere else outside of there. The place we work isn’t the club or grocery store or athletic event or hanging out with friends. It’s a professional environment where we want and need to be taken seriously so we are seen as competent and worthy of new opportunities, raises and promotions.
We want the boss to look at us and envision us at the next level. To make that likely to happen, here are some looks that will help that along. These looks are middle of the road for a semi-dressy environment. Of course you can wear these to most offices no matter how casual, but they may not be dressy enough for very conservative companies. Always refer to your dress code to make sure you’re in full compliance. This includes open toe shoes.
Without further delay:
This jersey shirt dress is a classic style in fun, trendy fabric. It happens to be a plus size but there are most likely smaller sizes as well. It’s perfect for spring weather and looks professional with the collar and buttons up almost like…..a shirt. Great option for the office and lunch with the girls by adding some fun jewelry and strappy sandals.
What is black and white with stripes all over? This totally adorable dress! This fit and flare dress with pretty stripes around the hem flatters many figures and looks great even when the temperatures soar. Add a cardigan or blazer if you get chilly or for more coverage. Wear this to your spring events such as graduation and even a wedding (if it’s not dressy or formal). Have some extra fun by coordinating your shoes with one of the stripe colors.
If you’re more of a pants girl, check out this very stylish jumpsuit. It looks like 2 garments but it’s really only 1 so you look like you’ve put more work into it than you did. Working smarter; not harder. Depending on your office, this jumpsuit may push the boring work clothes boundaries because it’s anything but. Show your co-workers you’re smart and stylish.
We haven’t forgotten the pregnant ladies! Work can be a chore normally, but if you’re pregnant, it’s usually magnified. Make getting dressed in the morning as easy as pie with this pretty, stretchy, tie front dress that is very comfortable and easy to get on and off. If you have some tummy left after the baby is born (who doesn’t?) and it’s time to go back to work, this is a very forgiving style and will hide anything you don’t want to show. It will probably be fall by then so add a cardigan or blazer and you can wear it into winter with tights.
Last but not least, if you want extreme comfort and total cuteness, try culottes/palazzo pants. These afford you with the security of pants and the flowy look of a skirt. The bottom line is that you have everything! They have been on trend for a few years now and aren’t going anywhere so get a couple of pairs. This pair is shown with a very casual t-shirt but you can pair them with a pretty blouse or other more office appropriate tops.
Morning dressing is much easier and fruitful with these anything but boring office appropriate options. Dress your best consistently and see what happens. Happy Spring!
