The SuperModels of Purple Passion & Fashion

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Julie Larsen, @julz156, and I are hosting a benefit for pancreatic cancer. Julie’s mom, sadly, died from pancreatic cancer and she wants to madness to stop. We all do. The more money we raise, the more research can be done to find a cure. Purple Passion and Fashion is on November 13th from 2pm-5pm at The Wherehouse. There will be plenty of fun and food from @streetzapizza , @antiguamke and @taste_of_life

There will be a silent auction that has awesome items and services from many local businesses. You don’t want to miss something you can actually use like a business logo or an optical store gift certificate. There will even be a gift certificate from yours truly!

Here’s the link to register: http://twtvite.com/ppandf

I am producing and directing a fashion show right on trend that you don’t want to miss. Urban Laundry, Luci, White Star and Shoo are the boutiques providing the fashions which are cutting edge.

The supermodels working the clothing are: Cynthia @deziner, Genevieve @einley, Katie @bootyp, Amy, Andrew @adny, Mark @markfairbanks, Augie @AgustinSantiago, Sharif @sharifrenno, Brian @brianmacguire

Every one of these individuals has a wonderful personality and added their own take to the shoot.

We decided to have a photo shoot of the models so you can see how awesome they are. Unfortunately Brian couldn’t be there but here are some pictures to show you what you have to look forward to.

James Conway, www.jamesconwayphoto.com was the photographer and as you can see, has a gift with photography. Thank you so much James! Any event you have, he’s your guy!

Dry Shampoo: Is it for You?

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

I have oily hair and want to wash it every other day, so I’m always looking for ways to make that possible. I came upon dry shampoo a few years ago and have been trying to find one I really like. Since my hair is dark, the brands that come out of the can white, don’t work for me. Uh, who wants fuzzy gray chunks of hair? That eliminated quite a few brands.

I found 3 brands (there are probably more) that use a clear formula. I bought and tried each one of them and here are my thoughts.

big sexy hair – This is quite pricey and does a nice job. No gray chunks but it makes your hair really coarse and almost like one big mass. I’m not a hair professional but I am following the instructions. If you brush it really well, it does even out but there’s not much shine. It’s worth trying.

TRESemme FreshStart – This is a very economical price but doesn’t do the trick. I followed the instructions and my hair felt and looked no different so I tried another application (more is always better!); no change. I gave up for that time and used big sexy hair. I tried again another day and got the same result-no change. It may work differently on your hair so since it’s low priced, give it a try.

SG  Salon Grafix – I found this brand at Sally Beauty Supply. It was cheaply priced and I thought, what the heck, let’s give it a whirl. I followed the directions and to my amazement, it worked quite well. No white residue; sucked the oil out of my hair and didn’t make it a solid mass. It was somewhat chunky but I think that comes with the territory. It’s now my favorite dry shampoo. I recommend it.

If you can’t go more than one day without shampooing, and you’d like to go longer, try dry shampoo. It may allow you to shampoo less and save your hair from unnecessary wear and tear. Let me know what your favorite brand is.

What's Hot? My Appearance on WTMJ Channel 4

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

Diane Pathieu, a Twitter friend, and WTMJ 4 Anchor, talked with me about being on her station and when she found out that I’d love to be on it, she bravely asked Rachel Glaszcz if she’d be interested in me being a guest. Diane took a risk on me and I greatly appreciate it. You’re awesome Diane!

I was invited by Rachel Glaszcz, Producer on WTMJ 4 to be the guest on “What’s Hot?” on October 1st. “What’s Hot?” is a segment that talks about the hottest topics of the day. I was honored to be invited and wanted to do my best.

This was my first time on TV and I was nervous so I asked Rachel what I could do to prepare. She was kind enough to suggest I come down, visit the station and meet everyone beforehand. I went the day before my appearance and I’m so glad I did. Rachel introduced me to everyone, let me sit in the control room and let me sit on set off camera so I could get a feel for everything. She was so nice and so was everyone she introduced me to. When you think of celebrities, sometimes you think of divas but I can truthfully tell you, there wasn’t a diva in the bunch! Everyone went out of their way to make me feel welcome and comfortable. They were awesome!

Jon Anne Willow, the guest on Thursday, when I visited, is a regular on the show and a total pro. She is a natural and makes it look effortless. Jon Anne introduced herself to me (while she was sitting in the chair waiting to go on!) and was so incredibly nice. After she was done with the segment she came over so we could talk further and she told me not to worry, that I would do fine. She was so supportive! She gave me makeup tips and many other tips to succeed. Thank you Jon Anne! Jon Anne has an online magazine, thirdcoastdigest.com . Make sure you check it out!

I ran into Shelley Walcott while I was there and she was also so kind. I told her of my nervousness and she spent time telling me ways to get rid of it and be confident. Whether you can believe it or not, she’s even more beautiful in person than on TV (if that’s possible).

I want to thank Rachel for inviting me, Rodney the producer on set, Courtney, George, Jeff, Brian and everyone else at channel 4 for being so kind to me. I really enjoyed my appearance and the interaction with everyone.

Joann Ringer is my hair and makeup professional. She did both and made me look TV ready. Thank you so much Joann!  You are a total joy! In addition to being a licensed cosmetologist, who has done hair and makeup for many years, she sells Motive Cosmetics which is a wonderful line of makeup and skin care. She really knows what she’s talking about so here’s the link to purchase online: www.motivescosmetics.com/ringer Just a FYI: there is no bat poop in Motive’s mascara as there is in many different brands.

Last but not least, here’s the link to the actual segment. I tried to embed it in this post but I couldn’t figure it out. If you know how, feel free to tell me know.
